Welcome to the City of Liberty!  We are glad you are visiting with us online.  Liberty is a  beautiful town, boasting the best restaurants anywhere.  We have unique and quaint shops for you to browse in after enjoying a great meal.  Our Freedom Park attracts many visitors, not just from Liberty, but from surrounding areas, who bring their families out to picnic and play.  Liberty's Rosewood Center is our community center where many of our activities take place.  It is a good place to have receptions, birthday parties, reunions or countless other activities.  The City rents this facility so check with the City Clerk for information. NOTICE TO PUBLIC
The City of Liberty will hold a Public Hearing June 3, 2013, at 5;30 p.m., at the Rosewood Center, Liberty, SC, to discuss Ordinance 13-0502; an ordinance to amend Ordinance 02-0402 to allow for changes to the registration section 20-31, nonpartisan elections, filings, certification of nominees.

The City budget for 2013-2014 is now in process. The City's fiscal year runs July 1-June 30.The proposed budget must be finalized, a public hearing held and City Council must vote to approve the proposed budget. After approval, it will be posted on the website.

The city is in the process of re- designing and implementing a new website. We will continue to keep the old website updated with upcoming events and pertinent information until the new website is launched. Thank you for your patience.


Liberty Middle School is pleased to announce our 2013 Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the year. Our Teacher of the Year is Angela Costner who teaches 6th grade Science. Mr. Joe Venable who works as an Instructional Aide is our Support Employee of the year. Both of these individuals have contributed greatly to the success of our school. Congratulations to both of them!

SETH CROW STATE FARM WELCOMES NEW LICENSED ASSOCIATE. Seth Crow - State Farm Agency in Liberty welcomes new team member Jenna Lemere. Jenna earned a business degree from Tri-County Technical College in 2009 and has over three years insurance and financial services experience. She is an Oconee County native who enjoys the outdoors, spending time with her family and planning for her upcoming wedding. "Protecting families is the most rewarding part of my job" says Jenna. Trash pick-up for the Memorial Day Holiday will be as follows:

  • Monday, 5/27 will be picked-up on Tuesday, 5/28
  • Tuesday, 5/28 will be picked-up on Wednesday, 5/29
  • Wednesday, 5/29 will be picked-up on Thursday, 5/30
  • Friday, May 31st will be as normal

SPECIAL ELECTION NOTICE

We are saddened by Liberty's loss of councilman Walt McJunkin. Councilman
McJunkin passed away Friday evening (3/1). Walt loved Liberty, he loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are
with the family.

With the passing of Councilman Walt McJunkin on Friday, March 1, 2013, a Special Election will occur on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, to fill the unexpired  term of Liberty City Council Ward 2 Seat. A runoff election, if necessary, will occur Tuesday, June 11, 2013.

Candidate fling for the special election shall open at Noon, March 22, 2013 at City Hall and shall close at Noon, April 1, 2013.

If only one candidate files during this filing period AND if no one comes forward to be a write-in candidate within 2 weeks of filing closing, no
special election shall be held. In this scenario, the person who filed will be declared elected.

 

Congratulations!

We just learned that Liberty's Tayler Moore was awarded the "2013 Bernie Varnadore National Scholarship." Tayler was awarded national scholarships to the school of their choice. The Dixie Boys Baseball national scholarship program was formed in 1987.


OATH OF OFFICE

Mayor Michael Sheriff has appointed Adam Gilstrap as Chief of Police for Liberty. Mayor Sheriff has appointed Chris Rowland as Fire Chief of Liberty. Mayor Sheriff and City Council have the utmost confidence in Chiefs Gilstrap and Rowland and thank them for their hard work and dedication during the interim period. The Oath of Office will be administered at the City Council Meeting, Monday, March 11th.
